Want to do something awesome with your young skiers? Come on out to NSAA’s Solstice Tree Tour! Here’s an excellent description of the event from the Visit Anchorage site:
The Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage brings you the annual Solstice Tree Tour, a uniquely Alaskan celebration of Winter Solstice and the return of longer days! You can ski, snowshoe, walk, or pull kids on sleds along a route of decorated holiday trees.
As a northern community, we love that this event encourages all ages and abilities to get outside and celebrate the winter solstice. The event planned is a tour of the trees along the first 2.5 k of the Mize Loop. Local businesses sponsor trees along the route and decorate them to create a winter wonderland along one of the most well-loved trails at Kincaid.
You’ll also be able to walk the loop, a rare treat on Kincaid’s ski-only winter routes. There will be a bike corral for bikers to leave their bikes and walk the loop. Sponsors will provide hot chocolate, coffee, adult beverages, and s’mores at warming stations along the way. This is a very popular, family-friendly event that brings together people of all ages.
The event runs from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and it’s a remarkable treat. The Solstice Tree Tour started in 2016, and it’s already become a beloved annual tradition for many Anchorage families. So we hope to see you out there, and remember that kids look extra-festive when they’re skiing in their Junior Nordic regalia! Also, note that classic skis are probably the better Tree Tour ski choice since the trail can be pretty crowded!
