This Sunday (Jan 23) is the Kincaid Wooden Ski Classic AMH Anchorage Cup. This race will be classic technique, and if you happen to have a pair of wooden skis, this is the event to break them out at! There are a couple different race options available. Junior Nordic will be providing race support for the following options:
- 6km Classic – 12:40 PM start time (recommended for Hawks, Wolverines)
- 3km Classic – 1:00 PM start time (recommended for Otters, Polar Cubs, anyone with wooden skis)
What gear should my skier bring?
Your skier should bring classic OR combi skis, boots, and poles. It’s also a great idea to bring an additional layer besides what they plan to race in, because it can be chilly in the stadium before and after the races.
Side Note — there will be a “best dressed” award, so break out your traditional wool layers and Norwegian sweaters for this one!
Where do I go and what time should I arrive?
This race takes place at Kincaid. The Junior Nordic race crew will be meeting in the Kincaid Stadium close to the tunnel. Look for the Ready 2 Race banner!
You should plan to arrive about an hour before your skier’s race starts. Once you arrive, you will want to pick up your racers bib (bib pickup will be located on the side of the lower parking lot nearest to the Gong Hill), then meet up with us. We will lead a warm up for Junior Nordic skiers starting about 40 minutes before race start.
What about waxing?
Junior Nordic provides kick waxing support, so if you would like us to wax your racer’s skis, just drop them off with us when you arrive to Kincaid. You are also welcome to wax at home if you have the supplies.
What about bad weather and cancellations?
The current forecast for Sunday is looking warm and potentially wet, which could cause a race cancellation. Please keep an eye out for updates from NSAA on Saturday evening and Sunday morning via email or the NSAA Facebook page.
Note that race registration closes on Saturday at 10:00 PM, and there is no day-of-race registration.
See you on Sunday!
